Five relaxing fishing spots in Hungary
While wor.my is located in Hungary – close to the capital, Budapest, we haven’t made any recommendations for you should you come to visit this Central-European country one day. We thought we still owe you this, so here we go.
One of the five locations is just off the capital, and two more are within one hour of driving, but the remaining two are also OK for a day trip as Hungary is a small country – about the same size as the U.S. state Indiana.
The one that’s closest to Budapest is the fishing lake in Haziret. Its 26 hectares offer carp, grass carp, crucian carp, bighead carp, catfish, zander and pike. It is a scenic spot surround by hills, and is deservedly popular with entire families.

The next two spots are near the town of Tata to the west of the capital. Lake Cseke is 18 hectares, and you can easily have a stroll around it to see the fauna. There are several little islands on the lake that are connected to the mainland by restored, atmospheric wooden bridges. What you can hope for is carp, but also catfish, zander, northern pike, grass carp, trout, tench, Prussian carp and bream in the lake.

Also near Tata lies Derito-to, and it strikes you as something right out of a fairytale. Other than fishing boats, you can also rent cabins. The lake offers practically all the fish species Hungary has – mainly carp and catfish, but also pike, zander, grass carp, crucian carp and bream.

And finally, the Reed Carp Lake which you can find in Vasmegyer in Szabolcs-Szatmar-Bereg County. They organize competitions all the time, but since it is a water surface of 23 hectares, you don’t need to worry about having too many people around. They even have night competitions there. It is also possible to rent a caravan there so there’s no rush to catch sturgeon, koi carp, grass carp, large-size catfish, zander, bream, tench and other species found in the lake.
